Trade and distinctive signs

The mark, trade names and labels are the distinctive establishments. These are elements whose function distinguish goods or services identical or similar, indicating who the manufacturer or producer thereof.
The characteristics of this type of protection are:
- Protected object: signs capable of graphic representation in the market that differentiate products and services.
- Type of protection: Ensures the holder the exclusive right to use and prevents others from marketing identical or similar products with the brand image or using one so similar as to create confusion.
- Duration: 10 years, renewable indefinitely.
- Type: National Brand, CTM and International Register. In the case of Latin America, there are two types of registration:
- Mark in the Andean Group,for the Andean Pact countries (Bolivia, Ecuador, Colombia and Peru)
- Mark in the countries of MERCOSUR (Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay and Venezuela).

- Registration Procedure: Having decided the level of regristro, must submit an application for registration of a mark on the national trademark office or Regional. The application must contain a clear and detailed reproduction of the sign that you wish to register and list of goods or services to which the sign would apply. The sign must meet several requirements.
